La Casa de la Salina (Main Floor) FAQ

1. How do I get from the airport to Isla?

There are a number of shuttle services from the airport, that will drop you off at the ferry ‘Puerto Juarez’. The ferry boat across costs $4.00 per person ($35 pesos). Once you are on Isla, you will be met there and brought to Casa de la Salina Grande and given the keys etc. Here are the links to shuttle services: http://www.bestday.com/Isla_Mujeres/ http://www.graylinecancun.com/transfers/

2. Is there a manager we can call if we need to?

Donna Jane Rivera is the manager of the property. Her number is programmed into the cell phone you will be given, in case you need her for any reason.

3. Is there someone we can pay for maid service?

The house will be cleaned just before you arrive with the bed made up and towels laid out. If you would like extra maid service during your stay, it can easily be arranged at a cost of $20USD per cleaning. You will pay the maid directly.

4. Is there a safe or lock box on site? If not how secure is the residence?

There is a safe in the house and you will be given instructions on operating this when you arrive. It is also important to lock doors and accessible windows when you are not there.

5. Are there laundry facilities at the house?

There is a washing machine available to guests, but no dryer. There is a clothes line outside for drying clothes.

6. Can I flush toilet paper?

No. Almost no septic system in Mexico can handle toilet paper. It is actually just as easy to fold and deposit all paper products in the basket next to the toilet. If you occasionally forget and need to flush paper, the system will survive it, but you do not want to deal with backed up sewage, so we beg you to simply use the waste basket for anything that is not human waste.

7. What do I do with the garbage?

Please put bags of waste paper etc in the trash bid located outside the gate.

8. What sorts of Critters might I expect to find on Isla?

We live in a tropical jungle and so have our fair share of critters. a) Geckos cannot be kept out of house, so you will see them occasionally, especially at night high on the walls. They are definitely more afraid of you than you are of them, and are completely harmless. They make a kissing sound occasionally. b)There are scorpions on Isla, but their sting is equivalent to a bee sting – not serious unless you have a strong allergic reaction. We have not seen nor had any scorpions in town at Salina Grande. The possibility that you will even see one is very, very small. c) Iguanas live on Isla, but will keep their distance. They like to eat bananas and flowers.

9. Can I bring my pet?

We are sorry, no pets are allowed.

10. Is it suitable for guests with a disability?

It is partially accessible. You will need to negotiate one or 2 steps to enter the house, but once there it is all on the same level. The showers are do have a slight level change to enter and exit, and there are no guard rails to grab.
